On the morning of Dec. 23, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) responded to 2982 North Ocean Shore Boulevard after receiving multiple calls that a male, later identified as 56-year-old Timothy Gibson, was intoxicated and threatening to harm his family.
Callers stated that Gibson was breaking car windows, screaming and behaving erratically outside of his trailer. One caller reported witnessing Gibson grab hunting gear from his truck before barricading himself inside his trailer, telling the caller he was ‘locked and loaded and not coming out.'
FCSO immediately set up a perimeter, secured the scene and began crisis negotiations to encourage Gibson to surrender peacefully. The FCSO SWAT team was already training nearby and responded to assist while warrants were being obtained for Gibson. Eventually Gibson complied and was secured. A search found firearms and ammunition.
This is not Gibson’s first encounter with law enforcement. Gibson has a criminal history in Flagler County dating back to February 2010 for numerous charges including obstruction by a disguised person, driving under the influence, threats against a public servant and battery domestic violence.
“This is a situation that could have had a terrible outcome,” Sheriff Staly said. “This guy has a history of bad decision-making. Our SWAT team and other deputies did a great job de-escalating this incident and bringing it to a peaceful resolution, but we were prepared in case he chose to try and harm anyone.”
Timothy Gibson was arrested and transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility. He is charged with three counts of felony aggravated assault, two counts of felony aggravated stalking and resisting without violence, he is being held on no bond.
“The holiday season, especially this year, can be a stressful time for families and often results in an increase in domestic disturbances but it is never acceptable to resort to violence,” Sheriff Staly said. “I ask that our residents practice kindness toward their friends, family and neighbors. If you find yourself in a hazardous situation, ask for help before it escalates. If you see someone else in a dangerous situation, say something. We are here for you and help is always just one phone call away.”
