Mainland football player Jordan Jackson is going Division I. Jackson recently announced his commitment to play college football for the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. The Black Knights play in Conference USA.
Seabreeze football's Matthew Bosset announced that he received an invitation to the Top 40 Camp, present by the Hammer Kicking Academy, in June. The camp is invite only – encompassing the top 10 freshman, top 10 sophomores and top 20 juniors comprising of kickers, punters, and snappers. The camp is a major recruiting and instructional camp.
Seabreeze boys soccer team's 2019-20 season came to an end in the Class 5A-Region 1 quarterfinals on Feb. 12. The No. 7 seed Sandcrabs, who have been to that last three state championship games, lost 3-0 to No. 2 seed Gainesville. The Sandcrabs finished the season with a 12-7-3 overall record.
Despite losing in the district championship game, Mainland's girls basketball team still qualified for regional play. The No. 8 seed Buccaneers upset the No. 1-seeded team in Region 1, topping Lincoln 63-49 at Lincoln High School. The Buccaneers also beat No. 6 seed Crestview 67-26 in the regional semifinals. The Buccaneers play No. 2 seed Wekiva in the regional final at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21.
In 2019-20, Seabreeze's girls basketball team had its winningest season since the 2012-13 season. The Sandcrabs won on game last year and were introduced to a new coach, John Rogers, this past summer. The Sandcrabs won 10 games (and lost 14). Their season ended in a loss in the first round of the district tournament.
