A subject wanted for opening fire on an occupied vehicle on U.S. 1 in southern Flagler County on Jan. 12 was located on Wednesday, Feb. 19, in Volusia County and taken into custody. De’Vantell Rashaun Cooper, 27, had an active Flagler County warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
Through investigative means, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office's Problem Area Crime Enforcement Unit learned that Cooper may be staying at an apartment complex in Daytona Beach. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Daytona Beach Police Department and their SWAT team made contact with Cooper at the apartment complex and took him into custody.
“Thankfully this dangerous offender is off the streets and behind bars where he belongs,” Sheriff Rick Staly said following the arrest. “We appreciate our partnership with the FDLE and the DBPD and their assistance in this arrest. He will soon be in the Green Roof Inn where he can’t hurt anyone and I hope he quickly makes his way to prison.”
Cooper will be booked at the Volusia County Branch Jail and will be extradited to Flagler County.
