In front of the largest Flagler Tiger Bay Club meeting attendance to date, former Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Constance Newman addressed 150 members and guests Feb. 19, at the Hammock Beach Resort, discussing economics, education, poverty and hunger in Africa.
Offering firsthand perspective regarding the region, Newman addressed the need for a global effort, led by the people of Africa, to combat the challenges facing nations across the resource-rich continent that remain impoverished, with ineffective governance.
Newman served as assistant administrator for Africa to the U.S. Agency for International Development and assistant secretary of state for African Affairs in the early 2000s. She is currently the special counsel for African Affairs for the Washington D.C.-based Carmen Group, and advisor to the U.S. African Development Foundation on Somalia.
The Flagler Tiger Bay Club will host Scott Sobel, senior vice president of Crisis and Litigation Communications for kglobal, on March 18, at the Hammock Dunes Club.
