There were happy faces all around at Fortunato Park on Feb. 22. The dogs at the sixth annual Rainbow Bridge Walk were obviously enjoying the annual canine meet and greet, even though there was the expected amount of barking. Owners and dogs mingled among several vendors while awaiting the walk over the bridge. About 200 people have attended the event in recent years, and there was a large crowd this year, even though a cold wind was blowing off the river as nightfall approached. The dogs and their owners walk across the bridge after dark with lighted collars to create a rainbow effect over the bridge. The event, which costs $10 for participants, benefits Sophies Circle, a dog rescue in New Smyrna Beach which also provides dog food to people who can’t afford to buy it.
