The St. James Episcopal Church, located at 38 S. Halifax Drive, is hosting 12-week art exhibit that will include several concert events and will run from Feb. 29 to May 24.
The exhibition, titled "Icons in Transformation," will feature over 100 contemporary works by internationally-acclaimed Russian-Swedish abstract expressionist Ludmila Pawlowska, according to a press release. Pawlowska presents traditional Russian icons as a source of inspiration. An opening gala will be held from 5-6 p.m. a the church and then move across the street to the Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens until 8 p.m.
Pawlowska was born in 1964 in exile, the press release states. After her mother died, she found inspiration in the Orthodox monasteries' spiritual icons. She has worked in a range of genres, both figurative and abstract, since she got started making art.
Food Brings Hope was chosen as the charity of choice for the grand opening event for the newest Jersey Mike's Subs location at the Tomoka Town Center on Feb. 5.
March will also mark Jersey Mike's Month of Giving. Customers received a free sub with a coupon and donation to Food Brings Hope. The Daytona Tortugas' mascot, Shelldon, stopped by the event.
The city of Ormond Beach welcomed Bethune-Cookman University President Dr. E. LaBrent Chrite with a reception to recognize him and his family.
Mayor Bill Partington presented Chrite with a proclamation and key to the city in the presence of the university's board of trustees, friends and local residents. The Mary McLeod Bethune Children's Choir also performed.
The Jewish Federation of Volusia and Flagler Counties delivers food from the Jerry Doliner Food Bank every month to a homeless shelter for veterans in Daytona Beach.
Recently, Jewish Federation president Marvin Miller completed the delivery. The Jerry Doliner Food Bank is located in Ormond Beach, and 100% of all donations go to providing aid to people of all races and religions, a press release states.
