A Palm Coast woman is now the third person to be charged as a co-conspirator in an October 2018 robbery shooting that injured Palm Coast resident Carl Saint Felix, then 19, leaving him with a disability.
The woman, Lauryn Darnell, 19, had helped plan the robbery, which was a drug ripoff: The shooter, a now-22-year-old woman named Princess Williams, arranged to meet Saint Felix on White Star Drive on Oct. 16, 2018, to buy marijuana, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office. But Williams didn't bring money for the drugs: Instead, she brought a gun, got into Saint Felix's car, and held him up at gunpoint for his marijuana and his money. She shot him in the back of the neck with a handgun, according to an FCSO report.
There were witnesses, and Williams, a Daytona Beach resident, was arrested the next day and later pleaded guilty to attempted felony murder, attempted robbery with a firearm and burglary while armed with a firearm. She will be sentenced at a hearing in July.
On Feb. 4, FCSO deputies arrested two more people in connection with the shooting: 18-year-old Jimaya Baker and 20-year-old Diovion Smith.
On Feb. 27, deputies got an arrest warrant for Darnell, and arrested her the same day, according to an FCSO news release.
“This goes to show that our investigations are thorough and our detectives are not going to stop until all responsible parties are charged,” Sheriff Rick Staly said in the news release. “The Major Case Unit has done a great job thoroughly investigating this case and working with PACE to get these offenders in the Green Roof Inn where they belong.”
Darnell is being held at the county jail on a $35,000 bond.
