The Ormond Beach Lions Club Foundation presented the Great Kids Learning Center with a $1,000 donation in a ceremony on Jan. 13, according to a press release.
The Great Kids Learning Center is an after-school learning program that helps local children develop "the attitudes, character and motivation necessary to succeed in school and life," the press release states. The program has students from five elementary schools: Ormond Beach Elementary, Ortona Elementary, Osceola Elementary, Pathways Elementary and Tomoka Elementary.
Following a kick-off on Saturday, Jan. 4 at the South Ormond Neighborhood Center, the Mayor's Health and Fitness Challenge in Ormond Beach has officially begun.
The weigh-in event introduced the participants to the event sponsors and the challenge's Perks and Wellness Partners, according to the city's Jan. 10 weekly review. Participants also received a T-shirt and goody bags.
Among the events included in this year's challenge are Jazzercise, Tai Chi, square dancing and walking with the mayor. The challenge will end on Saturday, March 28. Winners will be announced at the City Commission meeting on Tuesday, April 7.
A local nonprofit organization will be holding a beach cleanup at Andy Romano Beachfront Park on Jan. 19.
Save Blue Paradise will is joining forces with paddle boarding group Women Making Waves for the event, which will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Save Blue Paradise is also looking for more volunteers. Contact [email protected]
The Jewish Federation recently donated food to Barracks of Hope, a local shelter for veterans.
