Dear editor,
I have always wondered why anyone would call for a non-emergency, especially flu, earaches, infections, pink eye, or a fish hook in your hand. Are these people stupid and just do not know any better? Any of these ailments could be easily taken care of in a non-emergency setting, such as a doctor’s office or walk-in clinic.
I think this is a waste of taxpayer money that could be better spent educating people on what are true emergencies. A fall, a heart attack, a fire, an assault, a burglar are examples to me. Many emergencies do not require an ambulance; 10,000 to 20,000 just sounds like too much, even if you take into consideration police calls.
