The Stage at Thank You Five will be showing a comedy about a woman "living the dream" in New York's upper West Side, with a grandmother who decides to hire a matchmaker and save her from living alone in her tiny rent-controlled apartment.
"Crossing Delancey" by Susan Sandler features Grey Petropoulis, Pat Justin, Mitzy Sparks and Danno Waddell. The show is a "charming, sly, and heartfelt story exploring the bonds of family and tradition; the culture clash of old East Side and new West Side; and the romantic benefits of a new hat," according to a press release. The play is directed by Kelly Grounds.
"Crossing Delancey" will be at TY5 for the following shows: 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 24, 25, 31, and Feb. 1; and 2 p.m. on Feb. 2. TY5 is located at 4606 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Unit 2N. Tickets cost $17. Call 295-5699 or visit thankyoufive.org
The Knights of Columbus Council 8086 presented the Resources for Women with $2,000 in December.
The funds will help the Daytona Beach center maintain its ultrasound machine, which was donated by the Council from funds raised in 2016 at the inaugural Coastal Laps, according to a press release.
Over the past four years, that event and the Council's Baby Bottle campaign have aided in providing six ultrasound machines in pregnancy centers throughout the region. Council 8086 is based at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. At least four other councils will join Council 8086 for the 2020 Coastal Laps for Life, to be held at Father Lopez Catholic High School at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 4.
Arthaus recently brought out the inner DaVinci in seven members from the Boys and Girls Club of Volusia County thanks to the gallery's #happy art exhibition, which allowed these children to learn about famous artists, different art mediums and use their new knowledge to create their own masterpieces, according to a press release.
“The goal of the #happy art exhibition was to instill in the Boys & Girls Clubs’ youth a sense of creative self-expression while focusing on the aspects in their lives that brought them happiness," said Cameron Vintson, Executive Director of ArtHaus, in the press release.
Over 50 people attended the opening night for the exhibit. Members from the Rotary Club of Daytona Beach West visited the exhibit as well, and were impressed by Arthaus' educational impact on local youth, the press release states.
Food Brings Hope recognized Atlantic High School Senior Tyler Winch as its volunteer of the month for December 2019.
Winch, 17, helps with many FBH projects and events throughout the year, according to a press release, and was dubbed "Santa Tyler" during the holidays as he drove his cherry red truck to pick up donations and deliver toys to the organization's KidsZone and TeenZone students. Winch also helps with food pick-up, moving furniture and other items, as well as collecting donations and helping at special events.
Winch is dual enrolled at Daytona State College and plans to receive his associate's degree this year.
The Rotary Club of Port Orange-South Daytona inducted two community members on Jan. 7, as Paul Harris Fellows, the highest recognition possible in Rotary, according to a press release.
Port Orange Fire Chief Ken Fustin and Fire Marshal Beau Gardner were the honorees. They were designated to receive the award as a special expression of appreciation from club member DS Patel. The award signifies an individual's shared purpose with the objectives of Rotary, including dedication to goodwill, peace and understanding throughout the world.
The Port Orange Knights of Columbus Assembly 2794, along with Council 8086, treated the veterans and staff at the Emory Bennett VA Nursing Home to a cookout lunch on Dec. 16,
according to a press release.
More than a dozen Assembly Sir Knights prepared hamburgers, hot dogs, salads and more at the Our Lady Hope kitchen in Port Orange. Then, the knights traveled to the nursing home in Daytona Beach to provide the buffet meal. Faithful Admiral Sir Knight Ray Zall was the chairman. Also, the Knights assisted two other local assemblies with monthly veterans bingo.
