Food Brings Hope recently recognized Giles Electric as business of the month, a press release announced.
Giles Electric, owned by Brad Giles and his wife LeighAnne, have sponsored activities and events for the nonprofit including the Pearls of Hope Gala. LeighAnne Giles has often served on the planning committee for the gala as well.
The business recognition comes as a result of Giles Electric stepping up to provide a truck and employees to help pick up food at Second Harvest and deliver it to Pierson. Employee Harper Giles and Eric Turner volunteered their time every Tuesday rom March to June for this effort. It helped provide about 350 food bags to families in Pierson every week.
The Daytona Beach Gator Club has awarded $11,000 in scholarships to 11 Volusia County graduates heading to the University of Florida in the fall.
According to an announcement, 10 of the recipients are incoming freshmen and one is a previous scholarship winner now pursuing a master's degree in economics. Funding for the scholarship comes from club memberships, an annual golf tournament and club events. The scholarship winners have a variety of merits, including perfect ACT scores, scholarships from the National Honor Society and inclusion in the Futures Foundation Tomorrow's Leaders program.

The NASCAR Foundation and Easterseals Northeast Central Florida announced on July 23 that the Over the Edge fundraiser at One Daytona will be postponed until Nov. 18.
The event raises funds to help the organizations provide health care and services to local children in need. The first 140 participants to raise a minimum of $1,000 earn the chance to rappel down the side of the eight-story International Motorsports Center. The annual Prince of Peace Octoberfest parish festival has been canceled.
The festival was scheduled for Oct. 8-11, but an announcement from the festival committee states it has been canceled due to the uncertainties surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. The event has been held annually since 1969 and this will be the second time in 52 years it will not take place. The first was in 2016 as a result of Hurricane Matthew. The festival will resume next year on Oct 7-10, 2021.
