If you read last week's column, you know Brady and I took the weekend off to spend time at Hammock Beach Resort and enjoy all that Flagler County has to offer. Being in the growth stage of our business has not allowed for many days off in the last few months, so there was a bit of stress and a lot of planning that went into us being able to sneak away.
It was also the first time we have left Elijah overnight with someone who isn't family. Of course we knew the person well, but that didn't stop me from feeling a little nervous the days prior. I made sure his food was prepped, schedule was written out, and that all of my girlfriends' phone numbers were written out in case of emergency! When we got home on Sunday, that little boy had the biggest smile on his face. I'm not sure who had more fun — us or him!
Once we got to the resort, the only time we had our phones was during the little bit of time we spent working in the morning and when we needed to take a photo.
On Saturday, we spent the evening doing a mini scavenger hunt around the resort. I haven't laughed so hard in such a long time. Not having our phones allowed us to remove one of the biggest distractions we have in our day to day lives while focusing on what's most important — each other.
We talked about trips we want to take in the future, spent time laughing and getting to know each other again, and even got to sleep in! This was truly one of my favorite trips, and it was in our own backyard!
So what's moral of the story? The world will not end if you don't answer your phone or reply to an email immediately! No one missed out on a house. None of our deals fell apart, and Brady and I were able to enjoy each other's company while lounging in the lazy river for an hour at a time.
Take time for you and your partner! Your future self will thank you for it!
