With sand in between their toes, 17 Ormond Beach children spent a morning reeling in fish of all sizes at the Neptune Beach approach on Saturday, June 20.
The city's free Reel in the Fun kids' catch and release fishing tournament was open to ages 4-12 and was sponsored by Ike Leary of Granada Pier Bait and Tackle, Fish Florida and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. To abide by social distancing guidelines, the little fishermen and their families were spaced out across the strip of beach.
It was also a day of winning for girls, as they made up five of the six winners. Here are the placements:
Ages 4-6
1st: Scarlett R. – caught 7 fish
Ages 7-9
1st: Lily G. – 12 ounce whiting
2nd: Bennett G. – 8 ounce whiting
3rd: Lilliana P. – 7 ounce whiting
Ages 10-12
1st: Aurora Z. – 16 ounce whiting
2nd: Antonia B. – 6 ounce whiting
