Residents should continue to wear masks in public, especially where social distancing is not possible, and local leaders are lending their support to the initiative.
The following proclamation was sent to the media on June 25:
- WHEREAS the Palm Coast Community has and continues to showcase our community strength by being resilient and compassionate throughout the COVID-19 pandemic; and
- WHEREAS the Palm Coast Community places value on taking reasonable measures that serve to safeguard the health and wellbeing of our friends, neighbors, first responders, medical professionals, law enforcement officers and our most vulnerable populations; and
- WHEREAS COVID-19 can easily spread between people interacting in close proximity-for example, speaking, coughing or sneezing-even if those people are not exhibiting symptoms; and
- WHEREAS global health professionals note that virtually all of the communities around the world who have been most successful containing the spread of COVID-19 have embraced wearing masks as a means of mitigating the spread of COVID-19; and
- WHEREAS the Florida Department of Health recommends that face masks are a valuable tool to reduce community spread of COVID 19 used in conjunction with widespread testing, contact tracing, quarantining infected individuals, hand washing and physical distancing; and
- WHEREAS wearing masks is one of the least intrusive measures to counteract the spread of COVID 19, while at the same time one of the most effective; and
- WHEREAS the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings;
Now therefore let it be proclaimed by the leaders of your community:
Our community should rise up to the unprecedented challenge by choosing to wear masks in public, heeding the best advice of the Florida Department of Health-Flagler, CDC and other global health leaders. Join together with your family, friends and neighbors who have committed to wearing masks and play your vital role in proactively protecting members of our community by mitigating the spread of COVID-19.
