Mainland’s flag football team suffered a loss to Flagler Palm Coast last season.
“We weren’t going to let it happen again,” Buccaneers quarterback Alexa Wilson said. “We had a plan to come out firing on all cylinders, and I think we executed well.”
The Buccaneers squared off against the Bulldogs the afternoon of Thursday, March 12, at Mainland High School. The Buccaneers pounded the Bulldogs 41-0.
"We’ve done a lot of preparation for this season. This is a high-character team."

It was the Buccaneers’ third win of the season. They previously beat Deltona 42-0 in the season opener on March 5, and they beat St. Augustine 28-0 on March 10.
“Our defense was a swarming defense, and our offense was on point moving the ball down the field strategically,” Mainland head coach Scott Wilson said. “I’m proud of how they played.”
The Buccaneers return most of their starters from last season. In 2019, the Buccaneers were the No. 1 seed in the 1A-District 9 playoffs, where they lost to rival Seabreeze.
One of the Buccaneers’ goals this season is to return to the district playoffs and, hopefully, get past the Sandcrabs.
“We want to make a run toward the district playoffs and play the best football that we can play,” Scott Wilson said. “Just like everybody else, we have a goal to be in the state playoffs.”
How will they accomplish this?
“We have to keep shutting teams down on defense and moving the ball well on offense,” Mainland’s Avari Albright-Walker said.
Alexa Wilson added: “We’re taking it one team at a time and getting better every game.”
