While we're hunkering down during the coronavirus outbreak, it's important that we keep our health in the forefront. Here are four things my husband, Brady, and I do to keep my immune systems boosted throughout the year.

Proper hand washing

This may seem obvious, but when was the last time you checked the World Health Organizations recommended steps? There are 11 of them, and you don't have to sing the traditional "Happy Birthday" while you do them. Try out the choruses from "Love on Top," by Beyonce, or "The Locomotion," by Little Eva, for some variety!

Limit sugar, sleep more

It's no secret that too much sugar is poison to our body. Sugar suppresses the immune system, so by limiting sugar you're keeping your body up and running. Add in some fresh fruits and veggies, and you'll stay feeling great! With things slowing down for a few weeks, there's no better time to make sure you're getting enough sleep. Snuggle up with those babies and enjoy the time off.

Vitamins and exercise

Three supplements that I take when I'm feeling like I need a boost to my immune system are vitamins D and C and zinc. Adding a probiotic to the mix will help with gut health. Going for a walk on the beach is a great way to get some fresh air and sunshine while moving your body and feeling refreshed! Bonus: It's a perfect spot to bring the kids!

Check in with your chiropractor

One thing we always do when we're feeling off is head over to visit Dr. Amberly at Wellness One Chiropractic. I went throughout my pregnancy and now am taking Elijah whenever he has ailments.

So pause and take a deep breath. Put your health first! And most of all, take in the unexpected extra moments you get to spend with your babies over the next few weeks. It's extra memories we might not have had otherwise, so enjoy it while you can. Just make sure everyone is washing their hands.

These are just tips I have found that work for me. Always consult with your doctor before health decisions. Email Megan Farrell at [email protected]
