Both the city of Palm Coast and the Flagler County government are closing parks, trails, camping areas and associated facilities like restrooms, pavilions and parking lots beginning Monday, March 23.

Flagler County and Flagler Beach beaches, dune walkovers and the Flagler Beach pier will also close, starting at 6 a.m.

“The number of positive COVID-19 cases in the state – and elsewhere in the country – continue to rise,” Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord said in a Flagler County government news release. “We have to balance individuals’ desires to be out and about with safety of the entire community. We are trying to limit areas where social distancing and sanitation may be more difficult to regulate.”

The announcement came March 22, the same day the Florida Department of Health announced the first known instance of a Flagler County resident testing positive for COVID-19. The resident, a 72-year-old woman, has been hospitalized. (Another woman, 48, has been hospitalized at AdventHealth Palm Coast for COVID-19, but is not included in Flagler County's numbers on the Department of Health website because she is a resident of Volusia County, and the state categorizes cases by county of residence.)

Palm Coast's Parks & Recreation department is offering virtual recreation programs at www.palmcoastconnect.com/s/parks-and-recreation.

The Flagler County Government Services Building at 1769 E. Moody Blvd. in Bunnell will also be closed to the public, with a few exceptions, which will be by appointment only, according to the Flagler County government news release.
