Michael Granam opened Good Vibes Nutrition of Palm Coast at an unlucky time. His nutrition shop, aimed at creating a community of health-conscious customers, had a soft opening March 9, at 209 St. Joe Plaza Drive (near Ace Hardware off Palm Coast Parkway), just days before the coronavirus outbreak started.
Granam’s faith has helped him remain positive about the timing. He said he felt inspired to open the store.
“God already knew this was going to happen,” he said. “He wouldn’t make us into failures.”
Granam, who used to work with his brother as a mechanic for Mobil Mark, said the community support for his new company has been “incredible.”
He and one of his operators at the store, Chris Murphy, have personal stories of transformation to tell. They both have lost well over 100 pounds in their health journeys (Murphy has dropped from 435 to 265). Both also have sons in the Navy.
They work together with a second operator, Teresa Williams, to serve customers shakes and teas that they say have been helping people to lose weight or gain muscle.
Of course, they’d like business to be better, but their initial numbers are encouraging, Granam said.
“We’re staying open just like a restaurant,” he said. “We’ve been doing deliveries. People are conscious of their health. They don’t want to get off track.”
One diabetic customer, Michael Randazzo, said he drinks two shakes per day, and he has seen improvements in his health. “My doctor said, ‘Take less insulin,’” Randazzo said.
That’s gratifying to Granam. “I didn’t do this to get rich,” he said. “I did it to help people.”
