With their senior cheerleaders missing prom, the coaches at Matanzas High School decided to cheer them up. On May 1, coaches Melanie Wood, Adelia DeFalco and Emily Hays, with the help of the parents, “tricked” the seniors into dressing up for pictures.
“While they were in the yard taking pictures, we pulled up in prom gowns, carrying balloons, playing their favorite song and brought them a bottle of juice to toast!” Wood wrote in an email to the Palm Coast Observer. “They didn’t get their senior prom at the Speedway, but they did get hopefully a fun memory to look back on!”

Mary Lew Renninger is among the mask makers in our community. She has completed 300, she reported via email.
“There are stacks waiting to be completed, and I give them away to anyone who needs them,” she said, including Bunnell Police Department, AdventHealth Palm Coast, and facilities in St. Augustine and South Florida.
“It is my firm desire to do whatever I can to help others,” she said. “It is a joy to see how a homemade mask makes someone smile or want to hug you — but they stand back! This is what we need: caring for others without anger and letting the political mess stay out of it. Thankfully there are a lot of people who give of themselves.
She said that when people donate material, elastic, times, or send her children’s drawings to say thank you, it’s “better than money.”
The A1A Jeep Club showed its support for health care workers at AdventHealth Palm Coast on April 30 by driving around the hospital and holding up signs in a parade.
