From April 22 to April 26, Verdego promised to donate 100% of Garden Center sales to the Grace Community Food Pantry, with a goal of $20,000. The management and staff were overwhelmed with the turnout, and the goal was far exceeded. The total donation was $32,008.93.
T.J. McNitt, president and owner of Verdego, along with his family and staff, presented the check to Pastor Charles Silano, who directs the pantry. Silano said the donation would be used to purchase more than 236,000 pounds of food. He also indicated that this is more money than the food bank receives in a normal year and was the biggest donation in two years.
Some of the money will be used for equipment and infrastructure to improve the pantry, which has been serving Flagler County for 20 years.
Both Silano and volunteer Dottie Colletta thanked Verdego for the donation.
Verdego was inspired to raise money for the pantry because the business is just down the road from the long line of cars that forms to receive food on U.S. 1 on weekends.

AT&T customers and FirstNet subscribers in Palm Coast and Bunnell got a big boost in wireless connectivity, according to a May 11 press release from AT&T. Two new cell sites were added to enhance the area’s 4G LTE coverage.
The new Palm Coast cell site is on Colbert Lane, just south of West Waterside Parkway. The new site in Bunnell is helping improve coverage in the farming community along SR-100, just west of John Campbell Drive.
These upgrades will also benefit public safety and first responders on FirstNet.
These enhancements also bring Band 14 spectrum to the area. Band 14 is nationwide, high-quality spectrum set aside by the government specifically for FirstNet.
