With Fourth of July fireworks already canceled in Ormond Beach and in jeopardy in Palm Coast and Flagler Beach, Flagler Broadcasting is going for it.
General Manager David Ayres announced on “Free For All Friday” May 15 that the annual Rockin’ the Runways tribute concert will be held June 26 and June 27, culminating with fireworks by Santore and Sons, and extra precautions on account of COVID-19.
“There will be a giant LED screen, smoke, lights and lots of elbow room,” Ayres said, “more elbow room than you’ve ever had a concert.”
Tribute bands will play music made popular by Journey (Never Stop Believin’) and the Electric Light Orchestra (Ticket to the Moon), all on the runway of the Flagler Executive Airport. Tickets go on sale Monday, May 18, at flaglerbroadcasting.com with a cap of 1,000 attendees for each of the two days. There will be no walk-up ticket sales.
Hand sanitizer will be available, along with hand washing stations. Temperature will be checked for all attendees, and seats are 6 feet apart, Ayres said. Attendees must wear masks and are encouraged to bring their own, but if anyone comes without a mask, one will be provided.
Department of Health-Flagler Administrator Bob Snyder approves of the precautions and said it could be a model for other concerts in the future when social distancing is a requirement.
“You have all the bases covered,” Snyder told Ayres on the radio show.
Another Flagler Broadcasting station, KIX Country, is also planning to go forward with a concert featuring Confederate Railroad on Oct. 4.
