After qualifying from the 4A Region-1 meet last week, Jada Williams ended up being the lone Bulldog to represent FPC at this year's cross country state championships held at the Appalachee Regional Park, which is also home to the cross country teams at Florida State University.
Williams, who competed in the state meet in 2019, returned for another chance to improve her standing, and did so in 19 minutes and 17.7 seconds to officially secure a top-10 finish, taking ninth place overall in class 4A. Her time was about a second faster than she ran at regionals (19:18.30), though in cross country course times vary based on the course.
Head Coach David Halliday, who has coached numerous state champions, team champions, runners-up and top finishers, was pleased with her performance, saying that he knew she could definitely finish in the top ten despite her being ranked slightly lower after her third place finish at regionals.
Williams, who is also a defensive midfielder, will soon rejoin the girls soccer team at FPC now that the cross country season has come to a close. The team will next compete against DeLand on Monday at 7:15 pm while their first home game will be on November 19 against Seabreeze. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30.
Once soccer has concluded, it's safe to assume that Williams will lace up her spikes once again during the spring for the 2021 track and field season, perhaps with the goal of competing at the 2021 FHSAA Track and Field State Championships that will be hosted at the James G. Pressly Stadium, Percy Beard Track at University of Florida. A date has not been confirmed yet.
