Spruce Creek sent one runner to the 2020 FHSAA Cross Country State Championships this year, Olivia Niewald. Niewald, who competed in class 4A, mixed it up with some of the best girls in the state, at one point running close to leaders Amber Schulz of Timber Creek and Keleigh Scallon of Newsome early on.
The sophomore completed the course at Appalachee Regional Park in a time of 19:43.1, good enough to garner a top-20 finish. There's no doubt that the rising star isn't done, as track and field training soon begins. She'll be sure to be a key contributor to the Spruce Creek girls squad going forward.
