Cross country teams from both Seabreeze and Mainland High Schools competed in the annual Volusia/Flagler Freshman/Sophomore meet held Oct. 10, at Spruce Creek High School.
On the boys side, Seabreeze placed fifth overall with a score of 128 points and a team average time of 20:49.48. Mainland finished with a team average time of 25:59.04, but did not finish with a team score as they only had four runners.
Hayden Herndon had a top 10 finish individually and was first for the Sandcrabs, crossing the line in a time of 19 minutes and 15.16 seconds. Following him were Cade Gallman (20:10.30), Christian Boudreau (21:22.23), Kyler Crafton (21.22.50) and Kaden Reamer (21:57.21). Non-scoring efforts were made by Noah Parris (21:58.29) and Blake Tugwell (21:59.82), Frank Sinton (22:01.32) and Klellan Lubbe (22:04.64).
Mainland was led by sophomore Logan Camara, who completed the course in a time of 24:09.84. Behind him for the Bucs were Wyatt Bankard (24:59.44), Caleb Shealy (26:27.14) and Kavon Davis (28:19.76).
For the girls, Mainland finished eighth overall, scoring 172 with a team average time of 30:12.02. Seabreeze finished with a team average time of 28:14.87, but did not have a team score as they only had two runners compete.
Nickole Dane was the first to cross the line for Seabreeze in 22:03.95, finishing as runner-up behind Spruce Creek's Delaney Stephens (21.04.51). She was later followed by Ilari Droker (27:03.57).
Mainland was led by Molly Bronson who finished seventh overall (23:56.06). Following her were Kassie Stoner (28:24.96), Hailey Sharp (29:57.60), Annabelle Dougherty (32:42.54) and Antonneth Okoh (35:58.97). A non-scoring efforts was made by Skyler Spiker (37:20.32).
Awards were given to individuals who finished in the top 20. Earning medals for Seabreeze were were Herndon, Gallman and Dane, whereas Bronson was the lone Mainland runner to receive an award.
Both Mainland and Seabreeze will next compete at the annual Five Star Conference Championships hosted by Deland High School on Oct. 24.
