Spruce Creek once again hosted the annual Volusia/Flagler Freshman/Sophomore meet Saturday morning amid slightly humid conditions. In their typical fashion, the Lady Hawks took first in the team competition with a final score of 33 points, whereas the boys team finished ninth, with a final score of 203 respectively.
Boasting a team average time of 23:25.99, the girls team was led by individual champion Delaney Stephens. Stephens completed the 3.1 mile course in a time of 21:04.51. Jessica Greenberg (23:47.40), Bella Cobb (24:03.59), Addison Sanders (24:05.08) and Lauren Williams (24:09.35) completed the Lady Hawks' top five, with non-scoring efforts coming from Allyson Kuhns and Cadence Luciano (27:17.75).
With a team average time of 23:33.35, the Spruce Creek boys saw Charles Cousins finish first for the team (24th overall) in a time of 20:40.28. He was followed by teammates Ryan Gayton (22:23.72), Kevin Pedri (24:53.30), Will Gianinl (24:53.63) and Kristian Zimmerman (24:55.83). Non-scorers included Matthew Silva (25:13.50) and Fady Zaghloul (27:07.81).
Awards were given to individuals who finished in the top 20. Earning medals for the Hawks were Stephens, Greenberg, Cobb, Sanders, Williams and Kuhns.
The Hawks will next compete at the annual Five Star Conference Championships hosted by Deland High School on Oct. 24.
