Jon Moscowitz, a 12-year Fire Rescue veteran and lead emergency medical field training officer, was presented the “Kiwanis Fire Fighter of the Year” award on Oct. 7.
“He is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to emergency services and emergency medical services in particular,” said Interim Fire Rescue Chief Joe King. “He is one of a few firefighter-paramedics I know who fights to be on an ambulance and not on an engine.”
Moscowitz was also the recipient of this award in 2014, and received a fire safety and emergency medical award from the National Society Sons of the American Revolution in 2016. He is very active in the field training officer program and writes protocol for the county emergency management services system.
It was the commitment to the community by Moscowitz and his wife, Cherish, which set him apart in being chosen as this year’s recipient.
The Moscowitzes started collecting toys at their annual Christmas party in 2012 to donate to local charities here in Flagler County. They collect about 150 toys a year, totaling more than 1,200 to date. Donations have gone to the St. John's Park Volunteer Fire Department Santa Run, Family Life Center, and Live Like Cameron Foundation to fight childhood cancer.
“Jon isn’t motivated by recognition,” said King. “His hard work and generosity comes from the heart.”
