Matanzas traveled to the Ormond Beach YMCA to compete at the 2020 FHSAA 3A Districts 3 Championships, which is scheduled to be their final team meet of the 2020 season.
GIRLS RESULTS:
The Matanzas girls took third and fourth respectively in the relays. In the 200 yard medley relay, the squad consisting of Karolina Jaronis, Molly Duckworth, Madelyn Derringe and Isabella Tietje, finished in a time of 2:12.72. In the 200 yard freestyle, Nina Espinoza, Duckworth, Jessica Slusarz and Kadance Nickmeyer finished in a time of 2:09.87.
Individually, Derringe took second in the 500 yard freestyle, swimming a time of 6:00.31 over the distance. She also took third in the 100 yard freestyle, swimming a time of 58.93.
Jaronis led the way for the Pirates in the 200 yard freestyle, swimming 2:21.57, one second faster than her seed time. Finishing behind her was Espinoza (2:25.42), followed by Duckworth and Sarah Fairchild (2:43.47, 2:46.74).
Leslie Bravo swam 3:46.03 in the 200 yard IM.
Jaronis led Matanzas in the 100 yard backstroke, swimming to a fifth place finish with a time of 1:12.69, about two seconds faster than her seed time. Camerin Fueherer swam 1:24.12 in the event, followed by Slusarz (1:31.47) and Serena Rhodes (1:46.88).
Matanzas saw three swimmers in the 100 yard breaststroke, led by Duckworth (1:30.61). Nickmeyer (1:37.47) and Annabel Chambers (1:54.88).
In the 50 yard freestyle, Tietje finished sixth overall in a time of 29.36. She was followed by Espinoza (31.21), Nickmeyer (32.09), and Violet Mills (45.66).
Fairchild was the first Pirate to finish in the 100 yard butterfly, swimming a time of 1:25.20 to finish ninth. Bravo (1:47.02) also competed. Rhoades was disqualified due to a one hand touch.
Tietje also took sixth in the 100 yard freestyle, swimming a time of 1:05.36. She was followed by Kelsey Spruill (1:12.38) and Slusarz (1:15.69).
After 24 events, the team finished fourth overall with a team score of 253.
BOYS RESULTS
Matanzas took second in the boys 200 yard medley relay. The squad consisting of Casey Schagen as leadoff, Caleb Ear, Mekaill Tarannik and Zachary Ear, finished in a time of 1:59.39. The relay consisting of the same team also took fourth in the 200 yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:44.51.
Individually, Tarannik finished second in the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 1:53.97. Schagen finished in a time of 2:21.16.
In the 50 yard freestyle, Zachary Ear finished in a time of 29.86. He was followed by Yevhenii Sava (32.34), and Marcos Phillips (35.35.).
In the 100 yard butterfly, Caleb Ear swam a time of 1:10.96.
Tarannik won the 100 yard freestyle, swimming a time of 50.48. The Matanzas senior was followed by Zachary Ear (1:08.95) and Sava (1:18.78).
Schagen took seventh in the 500 yard freestyle, swimming a time of 6:41.43 over the distance. Struble finished in 7:21.68.

Caleb Ear led the way for the Pirates in the 100 yard breaststroke by winning the event in a time of 1:06.39. Struble finished in 1:34.38 and Phillips was disqualified due to his hands being brought beyond the hipline sure the stroke.
The team also finished fourth overall with a team score of 176.
