Kiwanis cleans up Ormond-by-the-Sea

The Kiwanis Club of Ormond Beach and its sponsored key club from Seabreeze High School spent their morning on Saturday, Oct. 24, cleaning the beach and parks in Ormond-by-the-Sea as part of Kiwanis 1 Day of Service.

This is a special day where every Kiwanis Club worldwide performs a service project, according to an email. Kiwanis is an international service organization that helps "build communities once child at a time."

Publix awards grants to Jewish Federation

Publix Supermarket Charities recently awarded the Jewish Federation of Volusia and Flagler Counties with $13,000 in grants to help feed the community and provide backpacks full of school supplies to children in need, according to a press release.

A total of $10,000 of grant funds are slated to aid the Federation's Jerry Doliner food bank in Ormond Beach, and $3,000 will help the Federation's Operation Backpack, which provided 7,400 backpacks to disadvantaged students. The backpacks were delivered to schools in Volusia and Flagler County to be distributed when students returned to school. 

“Publix has always been generous in giving us funds,” said Federation Executive Director Gloria Max in the press release. “They are a very giving store, and we appreciate it very much.” 

As the Federation absorbs all administrative costs, 100% of the donations go toward the nonprofit's charitable endeavors that help people of all race and religions. 

Local company wins manufacturing award

Best Price Trailers, located in in Holly Hill, recently announced it earned the Florida Top Volume Dealer award for 2019 from Sure-Trac, a manufacturer of open and enclosed trailers, according to a press release.

Artist opens photography exhibition

Ocean Art Gallery is inviting the community to an opening reception at 5-8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, for local photographer William Toti. This will occur during the First Saturday Art Walk event

His exhibition, "Take a Photographic Tour of the World Without Leaving Home," features a collection of images exploring an expansion of structure and color,

according to a press release. Toti has photographed every continent and his collection allows viewers to see places far and wide without leaving Ormond Beach. 

“My inspiration is to create images that have the ability to draw viewers out of the trials and tribulations of their everyday lives and into the magnificence of creation," said Toti in the press release. 

He will be at the gallery, located at 197 E. Granada Blvd., during the Art Walk event to chat with guests, who will also be treated to live music by DrCash Band, plus refreshments. Safety guidelines outline by the Centers for Disease Control will be observed.

The exhibit will be on display through Nov. 30. 

Father Lopez Cross Country heading to Regionals

The boys and girls Father Lopez Cross Country teams each recently won at the district level competition on Oct. 28, earning them a place at the upcoming Regionals in Lakeland.
