In December, Matanzas High School girls wrestling star Riley White had surgery to repair a bucket handle tear. In February, she finished as state runner-up for the second time in her career, in the 117-pound division. Then at the end of March, she signed her national letter of intent to wrestle for Missouri Baptist University.
White found the school through some teammates and coaches on Team Florida.
"I already knew some of the girls on the team and their work ethic," she said. "I know it is somewhere where I can get better."
Prior to signing, White had also received offers from Lourdes University and Indian Hills.
Head coach John White chimed in to speak on Riley While and her journey that led to putting the pen to paper.
"This year was a little unique," he said. "We weren't even sure if she would be able to wrestle this year. She had surgery on Dec. 20 and had to have her meniscus removed because it was too damaged to repair. Exactly two months after surgery, she was wrestling in the state finals."
Riley White will finish out her senior year and soon be on her way. She said that she looks forward to moving onto the next chapter of her life and learning new things in both the classroom and wrestling mat.
