Inspired by Lewis Carroll’s famed book The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland, The Palm Coast Arts Foundation is excited to announce the unveiling of “Alice.”  Created by artist Robert Ammon, "Alice" will be Turtle #13 to be added to the popular public art Turtle Trail.

“Alice,” sponsored by Sage Foundation will be unveiled at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, outside the main entrance of the Flagler County Public Library, 2500 Palm Coast Parkway NW. The public is invited. Please wear your face mask.

Library Director Holly Albanese stated, “April 4-10, 2021 is National Library Week, a time to highlight the essential role libraries play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. The theme for this year’s National Library Week is 'Welcome to your library,' which promotes the idea that libraries extend far beyond the four walls of a building and that everyone is welcome to use their services. This year we are pleased to have our turtle, Alice, installed during National Library Week and become part of the Turtle Trail. Alice will welcome everyone into the library with her whimsical paintings and visual expression of playfulness. It will transport you into the pages of the storybook.”

Artist Robert Ammon added, “In creating 'Alice' I thought first about these amazing sea creatures that often cross the vast mysterious ocean many times in their lifetime, and then about the diversity of the potential viewers of this public artwork, from toddlers to seniors, who in their lifetimes, will also experience a wide range of travels, sometimes in their minds, inspired by books such as this Carroll masterpiece, and sometimes in reality, as they intentionally or not, embark on an adventure, whether big or small. The characters we meet along the way and the choices we make leads us to discover our unique identity. It is my hope that each time someone crosses 'Alice’s' path, they’ll experience something new -- spark an idea, provoke a conversation, and provide the courage to embrace these life-changing adventures that mold us into who we become as we find our place in both the real world and the 'hidden' worlds, where the imagination takes hold and propels us into that vast mysterious place where anything is possible. To paraphrase Lewis Carroll, be 'curiouser and curiouser!'”
