The Seabreeze Sandcrabs lost to the Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs Friday, April 9, 7-0.
Seabreeze catcher Canyon Brown hit a single in the bottom of the first inning but the Sandcrabs were unable to hold on to that momentum. The game remained scoreless until a double by Bulldog Noah Trawick drove in Tate Underberg and Christian Diaz at the top of the third inning.
Solid pitching by FPC pitcher Tanner Araujo and infield support held the Sandcrabs to zero runs in the third.
Underberg and Diaz struck again in the fourth inning with a double and triple, after an infield error by Seabreeze put a runner on base, bringing the score to 4-0. Three more runs in the seventh inning by FPC sealed their win.
“My pitcher Tanner came in and did an unbelievable job and threw strikes,” said FPC head coach Anthony Campanella. “We played good defense. We put everything else aside. That’s the big thing that I tell our guys: Do your job and do what you know how to do and then the game will dictate how it happens.”
Seabreeze head coach and Bulldog alum Jeff Lemon utilized three pitchers in an attempt to offset the barrage of FPC hits. Ethan Gilbert pitched for the first three innings before being relieved by Robert Doeing, then Zach Sager. The pitchers had a total of 76 strikes including two strikeouts and 12 hits allowed in seven innings.
The Sandcrabs play the Barracudas Tuesday, April 13, in New Smyrna Beach for a non-district game.
