Both Mainland and Seabreeze High Schools were present for the 3A District-4 championships hosted by Matanzas High School on April 14. Mainland took the boys title after scoring 176 points and the Lady Sandcrabs finished at runners-up after scoring 110 points.
Below are the top performances on the day (by team):
MAINLAND
Mainland took third in the girls 4x800m relay to start the day in a time of 11:15.37. The squad featured Hannah Gilbert, Cassidy Campbell, Angelina Scheuerman and Jackie Christenson)
Mainland's Jonathan Williams took second in the boys 110m hurdles in a time of 15.91.
Cydney Wright of Mainland took the top spot in the girls 100m in a time of 12.08. Wright went on to complete the sprint trifecta, also winning the 200m (24.40) and 400m (54.73) races respectively.
Mainland took the boys 4x100m relay title. With Evans, Lockley, Devin Franklin, and Tristan Taylor, the team ran 42.73. The Lady Bucs finished as runners-up in the 4x100m relay (Avari Walker, Alexa Wilson, Camryn Campbell, D'arri Zellner), clocking a time of 52.71.
Delbert Franklin of Mainland finished first overall in the boys 400m, running 51.03.
Theodore Lockley led Mainland's 1-2 finish in the boys 100m by going 11.30 to get the win. Teammate Kalyb Evans was being him in 11.40.
Lockley and Franklin finished first and third in the boys 200m, running 23.16 and 23.37 respectively.
Mainland had a 1-2 finish in the boys high jump, with Zavier Mincey clearing 1.80m and teammate Nicholas Antione clearing 1.75m. Mincey would also take second in the triple jump, going a distance of 12.54m. Antione would take third in the event (12.45m) but finished second in the long jump (6.56m)
Mainland's Evans and Antione finished second in the boys long jump, going a distance of 6.62m.
Isaiah Gordon took the top spot for Mainland in the boys shot put, throwing a distance of 14.53m. Teammate Laron Davis was third, throwing the shot put 14.18m. Davis would also take second in the discus throw, throwing the disc a distance of 40.27m. Walker of Mainland took third in the girls competition, throwing the shot put a distance of 9.02m.
The Mainland boys (Tylee Ford, Lockley, Franklin and Franklin) won their race in a time of 3:30.02.
SEABREEZE
Veronica Low of Seabreeze took third in the girls 100m hurdles in 18.40. She also took third in the girls pole vault, clearing 1.83m.
Seabreeze senior Lee-Ann Gilbert finished third in the girls 400m, crossing the line in 1:03.50. Trevon Phillips of Seabreeze took third in 52.43.
Ella Chandler finished first in the girls 800m. The junior crossed the line in a time of 2:19.85. Fellow junior Sandcrab Jacob Labonte took in the boys race, running 2:03.42.
In the field events, Kimberly Collins of Seabreeze won the girls high jump, clearing 1.57m.
Jay Teters scored eight points for the Sandcrabs after he finished second in the boys pole vault, clearing a height of 2.28m. Teammate Collins also finished second in the girls competition, clearing 2.28m as well. She would later take second in the triple jump, going a distance of 10.20m.
Seabreeze senior Cheyenne Justice finished third in the girls discus, throwing a distance of 26.79.
Tyler Smith, a senior from Seabreeze, took third in the boys javelin throw. Smith threw a distance of 42.41.
Closing out the meet, Seabreeze won the girls 4x400m relay, finishing in 4:22.60 with the squad of Jayla Clowers-Jones, Gilbert, Saige O'Reilly and Chandler.
