Many Pirates had top finishes in their respective events over the course of the day at this year's 3A District 4 championships on April 14. Along with individual finishes, both the boys and girls teams finished third respectively. The boys scored a total of 85.5 points on the day and the girls finished with a total of 109 points.
Due to scheduling as well precautions about COVID-19, preliminary rounds were eliminated and all events were finals.
Here are some of the highlighted finishes of the day:
Taylor Washington took first in the girls 100m hurdles in 16.35 and finished second in the girls high jump, clearing 1.52m. She also took second in the girls 300m hurdles in 51.22.
Matanzas' girls 4x100m relay (Elektra Engblom, Tinaya Walker, JaDashia Catlin and Christina Kaufmaun) had the top finish in 51.65, whereas the boys (Demetrius Headley, Sho'Marion Gaines, Noah Cundiff and Mishael Souverain) took third in 44.93.
JaDashia Catlin and Jayce Friendly had runner-up finishes in the girls and boys 400m, running 1:01.06 and 51.66.
Mishael Souverain won the boys 300m hurdles in 41.60.
Tinaya Walker and Elektra Engblom had a 2-3 finish in the girls long jump, jumping a distance of 4.76m and 4.71m respectively. Engblom also took third in the girls 200m, running 27.76.
The Pirates capped off the day by finishing third in both of the 4x400m relays. The girls (Catlin, Hulsey, Allen and Youngman) 4:27.20, and the boys (Souverain, Miller, Friendly and Gaines) finished in 3:34.20.
Jordan Youngman took third in the girls high jump, clearing the bar at 1.47m.
Bradyn Cox won the boys discus throw with a final mark of 44.49m.
