10:56 p.m. — First block of East Granada Boulevard
Driving with a suspended license. A 42-year-old Ormond Beach woman was charged with a felony after she crashed into a tree and abandoned her vehicle.
According to police, witnesses saw the woman get out of her car, which was blocking the roadway, and walk away. Officers found her and the woman admitted that she left her vehicle because she was scared and worried due to her license being invalid.
As the woman had to be transported to the hospital because of the crash, the officer issued an affidavit for her charges in lieu of arrest to limit possible COVID-19 exposure. The woman has three prior convictions for driving with a suspended or revoked license.
5:20 p.m. — Intersection of West Granada Boulevard and North Tymber Creek Road
DUI. Police arrested a 23-year-old Flagler Beach man who, while driving under the influence, ran off the roadway and almost flipped his SUV over, according to a witness report.
The man then pulled into a local preschool and "started pulling stuff out of the SUV," the report states, before he got back in his car and continued driving eastbound on Granada Boulevard. Before local police could pull the man over, a Volusia deputy had already made contact, so the reporting officer drove to the preschool instead to see what he could find. The deputy then informed the officer over the radio that the man had left an inflatable water slide at the school.
According to the police report, the man was returning the slide after borrowing it. It was, indeed, at the school, the officer discovered.
Once the reporting officer made contact with the man, the deputy advised him that the man's breath smelled like alcohol. A series of field sobriety exercises were conducted, which the man failed.
The man admitted to drinking while at a family birthday party earlier in the day. He was taken to jail.
9:30 p.m. — 100 block of North Beach Street
Drunk person. Police transported a 39-year-old Daytona Beach man to the hospital after they found him drunk in a residential area.
The man was holding a cup full of alcohol, and proceeded to tell police that he was a professional surfer and that he knew the mayor, among other "nonsensical statements," the report details. The reporting officer was unable to find someone to take custody of the man in his state.
