Earlier this month, in advance of their coverage of the Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 14, FOX Sports recently donated new fitness equipment to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Volusia/Flagler Counties, according to a press release.
Speed and agility-themed equipment donations will support the eight local Boys and Girls Clubs, and the donation delivered to the John H. Dickerson Club in Daytona Beach included resistance parachutes, agility ladders, speed rings, ankle speed bands, mini hurdles and jump ropes. This will aid the Boys and Girls Club to provide programming for its 250 members by keeping the children active, the press release explains.
“Our club kids have had to readjust how they interact with each other in every way," said Tangela Hardy, John H. Dickerson Boys and Girls Club unit director. "The toughest thing was relearning how to play and share experiences together. We are so thankful to FOX Sports and Good Sports for providing our members this amazing opportunity to be able to play outside and utilize the incredible equipment.”
The donations are an extension of FOX Sports' work with its national nonprofit partner, Good Sports, on the Restore Play initiative which aims to provide at least $15 million in sports and fitness equipment to youth organizations and children across the U.S. that have experienced setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re seeing many youth-serving organizations still trying to keep their kids engaged amidst the pandemic, so our goal is to provide program leaders with the best gear possible,” Good Sports COO Christy Keswick said. “With Restore Play and partners like FOX Sports, Good Sports is able to donate much needed brand-new sports equipment to help kids get physically active as well as develop social skills and lifelong cognitive abilities alongside their peers.”
