Need to report animal problems, road issues, or code violations? A new Flagler County mobile app lets residents do all of those things with a few taps on the screen.

The county unveiled the free new mobile app, called U Gov Flagler, during a County Commission meeting on Feb. 15. It's available for both Android and iPhone users.

The app has tabs for a community calendar, notifications, an FAQ section that also has links to other local government websites, an "Around Us" map showing county facilities, and a "virtual reporter" feature that lets residents file work order requests in seven categories: code violations, trash problems, road problems, park/tree problems, land use problems, health problems, and animal problems.

It also shows road closures and has a "community key" with information on garbage collection days, school zones, evacuation zones and voting precincts.

"Much, much more is being developed," said Mari Davis, the county's Innovation Technology communications coordinator.

The county's IT department and GIS team developed the app in-house, initially for use by the county's Public Works department and General Services department.

Last Friday, Davis said, the county rolled out the app's "virtual reporter" feature for residents.

The county was able to create the app, plus an informational video on how to use it, for about $2,800, plus staff time, County Administrator Jerry Cameron said.
