Flagler County will spend about six months revitalizing Wadsworth Dog Park – beginning Feb. 22 – to enhance the experience for local pups and their beloved owners. This portion of Wadsworth Park will be closed until further notice.

An ADA-accessible restroom facility tops the list of amenities intended to improve the comfort of dog fanciers during their visits that also includes creating more parking spaces, as well as adding sun shade structures, and new benches. Additionally, fencing and turf will be replaced, mulch will be added, and new signage will be installed.

“Our residents love their dogs, and we want Wadsworth Dog Park to be comfortable for them when they visit,” said Interim Chief of Staff Heidi Petito. “We know this temporary closure is inconvenient, but there is no way to keep it open while we make the improvements.”

Flagler County Parks and Recreation offers a variety of trails suitable for a leashed dog-walking experience such as at Princess Place Preserve, River-to-Sea Preserve, and the Lehigh Trail. Leashed dogs are allowed on the beach in unincorporated Flagler County, and in limited areas within the city limits of Flagler Beach – north of North 10th Street, and south of South 10th Street.

“There are a lot of great trails to explore within Flagler County,” said Parks and Recreation Supervisor Craig Lenniger. “The cooler weather we’ve been having is great for walking with your pup.”
