The Golden Lion Café in Flagler Beach has donated its 50,000th meal.
Creating a product line of sauces from the Golden Lion Café, the Marlow family began bottling and selling at Publix Supermarkets their Key Lime Tartar Sauce in 2015, followed by the Dat’l Pepper Cocktail Sauce. The sauces can be found on Publix shelves in the Southeast, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting food pantries.
Feeding families has been passion for the Marlow family since Tony and Carolyn Marlow opened the doors to the “King of the Beach” in 1992, and as a second generation restaurateur, the couple’s son Chris is expanding on the family’s love of community with philanthropic efforts to give back.
A fish and chips promotion during the last week of January resulted in a donation of $2,000 to the Flagler Beach United Methodist Church on Feb. 11.
“This year was a smashing success; it was our busiest one we’ve ever had,” said Marlow. “Thank you so much to all the locals in the community that supported it. We’re just happy to give back to the community that supports us so much.”
“It’s been really hard for a lot of people and we’re aware there are a lot of people struggling right now. We think that the need now is more tremendous than ever and so there’s more of an impact with these donations than ever before,” he said.
