Julie Reheiser believes that there is no better way to ensure a better future than through education.
It's why she became a teacher. Over her 16 years of teaching, she's had the privilege of influencing the lives of hundreds of students. She's been able to guide them in not only learning content, but also leadership and empathy, she said.
"Having an impact on my community, country, and the world is something that is very important to me," Reheiser said.
The Ormond Beach Elementary Teacher of the Year is currently in her third year as an academic coach at the school, as well as a digital learning and technology leader. She spent the first nine years of her career teaching middle school, and then taught at the elementary level for another four years before taking on her current role.
Reheiser said she is humbled and honored to represent OBE as its Teacher of the Year.
"OBE is a school full of excellent and dedicated educators," she said. "Having been nominated by such a high caliber of educators is an amazing compliment."
Her favorite thing about being an educator is the relationships she can form with students and fellow teachers alike. Over her years in education, Reheiser said she has been honored to get to know so many amazing people, all of which have influenced her life and her career in a positive way.
If she could share a piece of wisdom with her students, it would be that everyone follows a different path in life. Your path may be different from that of your peers, she said, but that doesn't mean your path is any less worthy or important.
Our paths are also not linear, they may twist and turn, but as long as you are always moving forward, you are successful," Reheiser said.
