Interim City Manager, City of Flagler Beach
The COVID-19 pandemic has created many challenges across our great country, and unfortunately our city is now faced with a challenge related to the virus. In the interest of full transparency, yesterday afternoon I was advised that I have tested positive for the coronavirus. While I am feeling mild effects of the virus, I am resting, upbeat and following the advice of medical professionals. I will remain quarantined at home until I can fully recover and return to work when it is absolutely safe to do so. In the best interest of our city staff and our community, City Hall and the city’s Building Department will be closed immediately so that it can be thoroughly cleaned and decontaminated.
While performing my duties as the acting city manager and the Chief Building Official, I have split my time at both city facilities, thus the need for their immediate closure and cleaning. City Hall and the city’s Building Department will hereby be closed until Tuesday, Jan. 19.
At the present, the city intends to proceed with all meetings scheduled in the Commission Chambers during this period with appropriate procedures to protect the health and safety of the public, elected officials, and staff being observed. If there are any changes to scheduled meetings, the city will post notice of such modifications.
While City Hall and the City’s Building Department are closed, City Staff assigned to these facilities will be working remotely. The following phone numbers should be utilized to contact Staff while the aforementioned facilities are closed:
City Hall: (386) 517-2000. Please leave a voicemail message and Staff will return your call.
Building Department: (386) 871-2023
The safety and welfare of our city staff and our community are my utmost priority and thanks in advance for your time, patience and understanding with the facility closures listed above. I’m looking forward to returning to work when I’m cleared to do so by my medical team and until that time comes I will remain at home, resting and following medical direction.
In an effort to ease concerns, our City Human Resources Department is working with the Flagler County Department of Health with regards to contact tracing due to my interactions with citizens as well as City Staff over the past few days.
Lastly, the Coronavirus is more active in our area now than ever before, and the wearing of face-masks, social distancing and following CDC guidelines are highly recommended in order to stay safe moving forward.
