Robert D. Callan, Sr.
1935-2021
Dover, NH - Robert Declan Callan, Sr., 85, of Dover, NH and Palm Coast, FL passed away peacefully on Monday, January 11, 2021 at home with his wife by his side, from Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born July 24, 1935 in Wakefield, MA the youngest of eight children of the late Frances (Marsden) and Edward Callan, Sr. He graduated from Wakefield High School, Wakefield, MA and Bridgewater State College.
He began his career as a high school teacher and hockey coach in Wakefield. He then moved to PA and NY working in the sales of textbooks with Macmillan Publishers.
In the early 1970’s he moved his family to Dover NH, and established his business in early childhood resources, Meadow House Corp.
He married his first wife, Joan, in 1958, and they had four children: Lisa Peters of Marstons Mills, MA; Doreen Hutcheson, Staunton,VA; Robert Callan, Jr. (Kelly) of Dover, NH; and Thomas Callan of Paia, HI. He is also survived by five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
In 1995 he married his present wife, Jackie. They have had 25 years together, and have enjoyed golf, travelling to most of the US National Parks, as well as trips to Europe and Alaska. They have treasured time with family and friends, and for 20 years wintered at their home in Palm Coast, FL.
He belonged to the Parish of the Assumption in Dover, NH and attended St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Palm Coast, FL.
Bob was a member of the Rochester Country Club and Pine Lakes Country Club, and their men’s leagues years ago. In Palm Coast, he recently joined the Italian American Social Club. He belonged to the Parish of the Assumption in Dover, NH and attended St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Palm Coast, FL.
Bob was an enthusiastic Red Sox and Patriots fan, and watched golf on TV consistently.
In addition to his children and their families, he is survived by his sister Ann Dorlay of Maumee, OH, and his brother John (Gail) Callan of Centerville, MA. He was second Dad to Elizabeth (Steve) Hosken, of Barrington, NH; and John (Brenda) Keating, Seattle, WA. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, all very special in his life.
He was predeceased by his first wife Joan (LaRiccia) Callan and his siblings Edward, Thomas, Frances Reinhalter, Claire Carlson, and Rita Callan.
Only immediate family members will be in attendance at the mass of Christian Burial at Parish of the Assumption St. Joseph Church. Burial will follow the mass at Pine Hill Cemetery.
