The Lady Buccaneers girls soccer team beat the Palatka Panthers in a 2-0 win Monday, Jan. 18, at Mainland High School.
Missing three starters, two outside backs and their lead scorer, did not stop the Bucs from outmaneuvering the Panthers on the pitch. Less than four minutes into the game, Annabelle Dougherty scored Mainland’s first goal. Goalie Cathiann Goodwin refused all Panther attempts on goal with support from defenders Ava Dougherty and Kassie Stoner.
Utilizing the speed and agility of forward Shelby Lecates, Mainland scored another goal in the second half for the win.
"It was a good effort and aggressive play by everyone. We were defending well as a whole which limited the other teams chances going forward," stated Mainland's coach James Harden.
Lady Buccaneers travel to Crescent City to play the Raiders Thursday, Jan. 21.
