Ormond Beach Police Lt. Tom Larsen recently graduated from the University of Louisville, Southern Police Institutes' 88th Command Officer Development Course, announced Police Chief Jesse Godfrey in a press release.
For the last five months, Larsen has spent two weeks at a time in Fort Lauderdale completing this course, which is an educational program that aims at providing a "foundation for practical law enforcement administration and a comprehensive overview of management practices," per the course website.
Larsen is one of two newly-promoted patrol lieutenants, and prior to this assignment, was the criminal investigations unit supervisor. The press release states Larsen has worked for OBOD for about 21 years in various positions, such as patrol officer, detective, corporal and sergeant. He is pursuing his bacherlor's degree in criminal justice. Larsen is also a combat veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
“The commitment and time away from home and family is a true testament to Lieutenant Tom Larsen’s solid work ethic and dedication to duty," Godfrey said. "We are proud of his accomplishments and know that all of his hard work while attending this demanding course will make him an asset not only to the Police Department, but to the citizens and visitors of this great city.”
The press release states OBPD and Larsen want to thank the Ormond Beach Police Foundation for financing this training opportunity.

“These awards represent the innovation and dedication of our Community Information team to overcome hurdles in a very challenging year,” said VCS Superintendent Dr. Scott Fritz in the press release. “At VCS we understand strong communication is critical to accelerating student achievement and our communications team works extremely hard year-round to keep our school families, staff and community informed in a constantly evolving environment.
