Two rooms in a hotel in Ormond Beach were damaged after a fire broke out on Monday, May 31.
The Ormond Beach Fire Department responded to Ocean East Resort Club at 867 S. Atlantic Ave. at 7:40 p.m. after a witness reported seeing a fire in a trash can, which spread to nearby rooms. According to the city, guests were evacuated from their rooms and the fire was extinguished. Afterward, they were allowed to return into the building, as only two rooms were deemed uninhabitable. The affected guests were relocated.
The city reported that the fire is not suspicious. It is suspected that the fire was due to discarded smoking materials deposited into plastic trash bins.
