The city of Palm Coast and the Philippine American Association of Palm Coast hosted a public Philippine flag-raising ceremony at Palm Coast City Hall at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 12.
The event organizer, Winda Almazan, and City Council member Victor Barbosa welcomed guests to the ceremony.
Sarah Penaflor, immediate past president of the Philippine American Association, emceed the event.
The ceremony was held outside at the flag pole at City Hall located at 160 Lake Ave.
During the event, the flags of the United States and the Philippines were raised in celebration of Philippine Independence Day.
Almazan and Barbosa delivered speeches commemorating the day.
A live performance of America’s National Anthem and the Philippine National Anthem followed, sung by Tara Hammock.
Additional remarks were made by members of the Philippine American Association along with another song by Hammock, igniting dancing by all attendees.
The ceremony concluded with remarks by Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly.
This is the 123rd Philippine Independence Day commemorating the Philippine liberation from Spanish Colonial rule.
Hundreds of thousands of Philippine American citizens celebrate annually to create awareness of pride for their long-lasting culture and heritage. The Philippine American Association of Palm Coast has made numerous contributions to the prosperity of the city.
