2:11 p.m. — 300 block of Main Trail
Suspicious incident. Police responded to a local neighborhood after an Ormond Beach woman notified that someone may have shot what appeared to be an Airsoft toy gun at her 14-year-old son.
According to the police report, the boy was riding his bicycle in the neighborhood when he saw a man in a black passenger car drive by him with the toy gun out of his window. The boy heard a noise, though couldn't say if it was from the Airsoft gun, as he was not hit with any projectile. The boy told police the man may have shot at another bicyclist in the neighborhood, but he wasn't sure.
Police were unable to locate the vehicle.
10:33 a.m. — 1500 block of North U.S. 1
Larceny. A 35-year-old transient man lucked out in an unexpected way after he stole two lottery tickets from a local gas station convenience store and the manager, after changing his mind a couple times, ultimately decided not to press charges.
Surveillance video showed the man approaching the counter and reaching between the lottery ticket dispensers, first grabbing one worth $20, and then grabbing a second worth $30. As police were reviewing the video with the store manager, the man walked across the parking lot. The reporting officer ran toward him, at which point the man tried to quickly walk away before being instructed to get on the ground.
He was placed in handcuffs and put in the rear seat of the officer's patrol car. He spoke with police and admitted to stealing the lottery tickets, which he also added were not winning tickets.
As he spoke with officers, the store manager wasn't sure if he wanted to pursue charges, and disclosed he didn't want to be "inconvenienced," the report states. He asked a "multitude of hypothetical questions about court and plea deals, after which he said he did want to pursue charges. However as the officer was completing the arrest paperwork, the manager changed his mind.
The man was released.
10:15 p.m. — First block of West Granada Boulevard
Disorderly intoxication. Police arrested a 26-year-old Port Orange man who was causing a disturbance at a city park while drink and screaming obscenities at people.
According to his arrest report, police were flagged down by a witness who spotted the man under the Granada bridge. As officers approached a nearby gazebo, they saw the man screaming. The man became aware police were approaching and began to throw his alcohol and trash into the river. The reporting officer ran up to him and yelled at him to stop.
The man threatened to harm the officers and, when placed in the back of the patrol car, began to kick and scream. He was taken to jail and issued a trespass warning for all city parks.
