Flagler County is finding new support for plans to build a mental health drop-in facility.
The county had initially hoped to build a mental health drop-in center in a building AdventHealth had offered to donate.
But county staff discovered in recent weeks that that won’t work — the building has too many problems that would be expensive to repair.
So now, the county government is facing a bigger expense — but also finding new partners.
“We’ve reached out to a number of community partners,” County Administrator Jerry Cameron said in a County Commission meeting March 1. “We had originally budgeted about $150,000 from the county. I have gotten a match commitment from Flagler Hospital for that $150,000.”
Cameron is still seeking other commitments, he said, including potentially with SMA Behavioral Healthcare.
A proposal to build a mental health care drop-in center in Flagler County, which currently does not have one, was high on the county government’s funding request to the state government this year.
