The Lady Sandcrabs' flag football team defeated the Deltona Wolves 26-6 on Thursday, March 18, at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex following their junior varsity's 60-0 rout against the Wolves.
Inspired by their JV counterparts, the Seabreeze varsity flag football team players hit the field running. Within minutes of the game's start time, quarterback Chelsea McQuarrie passed to Morgan Long for a completion. Long sprinted into the end zone for the first touchdown of the game. Deltona attempted to match points in the second quarter with an interception by Shenell White, but the Wolves were not able to score until the third quarter. That was after McQuarrie hit Alex Nelson with a pass resulting in another six points for the Sandcrabs.
Seabreeze senior Alex Nelson and classmate Tonila Jackson scored back-to-back touchdowns in the third quarter with Jackson successfully scoring the extra points. Lady Sandcrabs held the Wolves to one touchdown and finished with the win.
"We are a very young, talented team and are having some growing pains like many other teams. We hope to play Mainland High School in the District Finals again," Seabreeze head coach Todd Barnes said. "Sophomore quarterback Chelsea McQuarrie and freshman receiver Morgan Long have been impressive thus far. Alex Nelson continues to be a leader in her senior year and is contributing as always."
The Seabreeze Sandcrabs are currently on spring break and will be back in action Tuesday, March 30 when the team plays the Matanzas Pirates in their house.
