Senior Financial Analyst Lauren Shank worked her last day for Flagler County on Friday – she was recruited by the city of Palatka, her hometown, to become its next finance director.

“You set an example of how service to your team and organization leads to greater opportunity,” said County Administrator Jerry Cameron. “The city of Palatka could not have made a better choice.”

Shank came to Flagler County in March 2014, initially hired as a staff assistant for the Engineering Department. She was promoted to budget analyst for the finance department within 18 months. In 2019, Flagler County sent Shank to work for the city of Bunnell to work as its interim finance director.

“This was a critical time for me,” said City Manager Alvin Jackson, newly hired at the time. “I didn’t have a finance department, and Ms. Shank really helped me with my first budget. She did a great job – her knowledge and experience shone.”

Upon her return to Flagler County, Shank was promoted to senior financial analyst. She has worked on the Tyler Munis (governmental software) implementation, the Capital Improvement Program, Truth in Mileage (TRIM) adoption, and additionally served as interim grant and project accountant until a full-time hire could be made.

“Lauren has worked hard, and consistently took on new areas of responsibility,” said Finance Director John Brower. “As a result, she put herself in a position to take advantage of a great opportunity when it came along.”

The change is bittersweet for Shank.

“I am very thankful for the opportunities Flagler County gave me,” she said. “I will miss everyone very much.”

Cameron assured her that her support system in Flagler County will remain.

“Please feel free to call at any time we can be of service,” he said. “Now go out and do great things.”
