Over the past year, the Daytona Beach Choral Society has had to get creative in order to continue making music together despite the pandemic. They worked on a couple of virtual choir projects, which involved recording parts individually from home and editing them all together. Most recently, they have been working together in what they've dubbed their “car choir.”
Choir members meet in a designated parking lot or driveway and sing from their safety of their cars, according to an email. Singers use wireless microphones and are broadcast through an FM transmitter. They can all hear each other, the music director, and accompanist via radio without any delay. Rehearsals are live streamed and archived for singers that choose to sing virtually from home.
The choir will be performing a virtual concert at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, via a pre-recorded presentation broadcast on YouTube and Facebook. At the same time, the choir will also have a small group of singers doing a masked-and-distanced demonstration in the courtyard at CMX Daytona Luxury 12 movie theater at ONE Daytona.
Ormond Beach is well represented in the Daytona Beach Choral Society by members Doris Deiter, Pauline Rodick, Judy Bode, Jerry Londal, Pat Boyd, Donna Lovelace-Flora, Susan Spaulding and Chrystal Heidemann.
